Freaky Train
I had to jot this down. Yesterday, I had a vivid dream in which I found myself trapped under railroad tracks. I kept calling out for a friend to help me, and he sort of tried, but didn’t. Then, the morning rush hour started, and I felt really scared, because it meant that trains would soon start coming over head. It felt stifling. I summoned my lucidity, and woke myself up out of the dream. I had the sense of a faulty simulation crashing, like a virtual reality encountering a segmentation fault.
As though that didn’t weird me out enough, today a friend called me. She took a train back from Philadelphia to her house, and my train station resided along the way to where she would change trains. She told me that her train had stopped, because someone tried to jump in front of the previous train to try to kill himself.
Did I pick up on it somehow? I sort of feel so. A skeptic would just call it coincidence, but those who know better consider coincidence that which remains after you have applied a bad theory. I feel kind of freaked out.
How I Spent Towel Day
Filed under: Behind the Curtain, High Weirdness, Spirituality
Sorry for not blogging or doing my show. Work continues behind the curtain, I promise. I just wanted to give a quick update. I still have to review the new Star Trek movie, and an important book, but first I wanted to talk about Towel Day.
Fans of Douglas Adams have begun celebrating Towel Day, May 25th, to honor his life and work. We listened to the entire radio series all day. Meanwhile, construction work continued on my bathroom, Hitchhiker’s providing a welcome focus.
Hitchhiker’s has helped through many hard times, especially having to attend a blind center, and some other things. It has a positive association, and this increased. I self-attuned myself to Reiki, as described here. It really works! Don’t panic!
Back in Slack!
I write this from a barely configured system. I sincerely hope I don’t need to reinstall it, but we shall see. I wanted to document what happened, in case some other poor hacker had the same problem.
I wanted to install Slackware 12.2 on this newly rebuilt dual-core system. I hoped all would go well, but every machine has its own challenges. I got to the configuration part well enough, but it stopped displaying anything after it told me that it had to run fc-cache to update my fonts. This happened in the FONTCONFIG dialog. I thought, “Great, something I don’t even care about, and it locked up.” I started poking around, and actually discovered that the fc-cache ran fine, and it had proceeded to the boot disk part of the installation. This took hunting around in the
/usr/lib/setup and /mnt/var/log/setup directories and in the processes, but I found it! Let me digress by saying that I love vim! Anyways, I discovered that for some reason, running `rescan-scsi-bus -l` locked it up. I still don’t know why. I ran
# chmod -x /mnt/var/log/setup/setup.80.make-bootdisk
and this fixed the problem. Actually, it didn’t fix the problem, it just skipped that part of the installation. I figure as long as I have the dvd I have a boot disk. Good enough. I just wanted to get this down. I hope it benefits someone. I’ll have more later. I need meditation and rest.
